Accuracy and verification

IMCN seeks corroboration, checks dates and figures against the strongest available source, and links readers to the underlying publication. Anonymous information should be independently verified and described with enough context for readers to assess it.

Legal status

We distinguish suspicion, investigation, arrest, charge, trial, conviction, appeal, regulatory finding and settlement. A person accused of wrongdoing is treated as innocent unless convicted by a competent court.

Attribution and copyright

News briefs use original wording and prominently identify source reporting. Editors must not paste a publisher’s full article or use third-party photography without permission or a valid licence.

Fairness and right of reply

For serious original allegations, subjects should receive a meaningful opportunity to respond before publication unless an overriding public-interest reason is documented. Material denials and relevant context belong in the story.

Conflicts and corrections

Editors disclose material conflicts and correct significant errors transparently. Commercial considerations must not determine editorial conclusions.
