Uganda’s Director of Public Prosecutions has warned that weak investigations continue to undermine successful prosecutions, according to reporting by Daily Monitor. A new approach is intended to make financial investigation and the tracing of criminal benefit a more consistent part of case preparation.

The emphasis on asset tracing matters because a conviction alone may leave the economic incentive for crime untouched. Identifying beneficial ownership, following transfers and securing assets early can support later confiscation and victim compensation where the law allows.

The report says Uganda is preparing for a future international review of its anti-money-laundering framework. Sustained results will depend on investigators, prosecutors, financial intelligence specialists and reporting entities working from compatible evidence standards.
